Additionally, you have to take into account the glazing unit your windows are equipped with and, what follows naturally, the heat transfer coefficient (U-value). Obviously, the best choice for the best (namely, the lowest!) U-value are modern triple-glazed windows, which provide good protection against heat loss. The type of glazing unit is of great importance both in terms of thermal insulation properties and new windows cost estimate. Generally, if you change the glazing unit type from a double-glazed to a triple-glazed, the price goes up by +15%. The new windows average cost goes up not only with the increase in the number of window panes, but also gaskets and chambers. The type of panes largely influences the price of new windows as well. Tempered glass,characterised by increased resistance to crushing or breakage, costs at least 60% more than the standard glass package. Laminated safety glass, on the other hand, is even 120% more expensive. In addition, there are e.g. solar control panes or decorative panes that raise new windows cost, too.

The material used for window production is crucial for new windows cost. For example, the production process of wooden windows requires much more time and more work than in the case of uPVC windows. While plastic windows are manufactured from ready-made elements that are then formed, wooden windows are made of specially selected pieces of wood that must be painted and impregnated several times. In such a case, the difference in the average cost of new windows results not only from the different window materials, but also from the length and complexity of the production process as well as the technologies used in it.
When it comes to new window prices, uPVC (Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride) is the most cost-effective of all the available frame materials. Thanks to its durability, low maintenance and cost-effectiveness, uPVC is a great alternative to the more traditional timber and aluminium frame materials. Obviously, white uPVC windows in rectangular shape are the cheapest option. Any change in colour increases the new windows cost, e.g. a single-sided veneer raises the price by 10% while a double-sided veneer by 20%. Moreover, the price of new windows goes up when we choose windows of a non-standard size – in this case the difference may reach up to several hundred euros (or pounds).
New uPVC windows cost
As we already mentioned, uPVC is the most commonly used material for window production. However, the variety of uPVC windows can make your head spin. There are many sizes, colours and technical parameters to choose from. As a result, uPVC windows prices online differ as well.New uPVC windows cost depend on their quality and dimensions. The second category includes, among others, wood-like veneers that increase the windows aesthetics. Fixed windows, which are generally the cheapest window option, are rarely used in residential buildings where opening structures are preferred. The latter are obviously more functional but in their case, new windows cost will depend on their complexity. Traditional casement windows are still willingly chosen by customers in the UK and Ireland. New window costs compared: double glazing vs secondary glazing vs triple glazing
Windows are surely one of the most important elements determining not only the aesthetics but also safety and comfort of our house or apartment. Therefore, in the purchasing process it is worth paying attention to thermal insulation properties of a window. The latter comes down to an insulated glazing unit (commonly IGU) which is made of two (double-glazing) or three (triple-glazing) panes distanced 8 to 16 mm from each other. The gaps between the panes are filled with argon or krypton gases and hermetically sealed. Such a technology provides a vast improvement in thermal insulation over single glazing. The U-value of a single 4 mm glass pane, for example, is 5.8 W/m²K, whereas a standard triple-glazed unit is 0.7 W/m²K. Obviously, the better the window’s thermal insulation, the higher the new windows cost, but also the lower the energy losses during the heating season.
The choice between a double-glazing unit and a triple-glazing unit is one of the main factors influencing the new windows quote and the customer’s purchasing decision.
